Hand-Made?

I was out eating lunch at Burger King this last week. I found that my Jr. Whopper meal didn't quite hit the spot. So, I approached the front counter in pursuit of an infamous Burger King strawberry shake.
Taste it, Love it, Crave it
I confidently told the proletarian who was taking my order what I desired as I had so many times before, but was met with the question, "what kind of shake?" I quickly looked at the menu for reassurance only to see that another shake had been betrothed onto the menu. The "hand-spun" Ice cream shake. Naturally I chose this shake instead because it had the word "hand" in it which is an obvious sign of quality.
As is the word "Amish"
As I walked back to my table I pondered a few things.
1. How on earth was a hand involved in this shake?
2. Why did I buy something because it was made by hand in some way?
3. That girl over there looks dang good.
Nah girl I ain't married, sup?
Besides the third statement my mind racked itself on why people perceive the term "Hand-Made" with some view of the product being of more quality. I've already had a huge rant on meat cut in store that you can read here. What makes a persons hands so amazing for creating something that a machine can do arguably better.
I'm better than you....And I know it.
I went online and decided to research what made handmade products better. I came across this list of 101 reasons why people should buy handmade which turned out to be very informative (if by informative you mean completely worthless.) A few of my favorite reasons from the article...

27. "You don't have to say that you bought it at Ikea."
There is no greater pangs of guilt than having to tell your friends that you bought that furniture from....a furniture store.

30. "To support the idea that something made from hand from a fellow human is a little more precious than the something which is not."
Yeah why would I want something from a machine? Your sweaty hands make it so much more "precious."
41. "People appreciate handcrafted pieces."
Is this a reason or some bloated opinion?

71. "Buying handmade shows our children that not everything in this world needs to be mass produced. It teaches them to love and appreciate the unique and the imperfect. And it inspires them to do their own creating as well."
"Gee mom, you really showed me!"
74. "Buying handmade celebrates humanity."
As opposed to buying factory made you machine lover.

Overall, I can't really tell if the list is meant to be serious because every other reason is how you can feel the love the maker of the product you bought is in the actual product and somehow you have a connection to the seller.
Seller: "And the money you gave me ain't bad either EY OHH!!"
Just remember that homeade doesn't always equal quality and you should go with the best product not just because it has the word "hand" in it.

  1. It did the job but I still don't understand how it was hand spun and the benefits of doing such.
