Hail to the (Ch-ch-ch)ief

Recently, I had a Birthday which up until the age of 18 is usually an enjoyable affair but, after that crucial age cut-off, it becomes less about cake and presents and more about binge eating at a local Chuck-A-Rama. I still do get presents and in past holidays and birthdays they have ranged from downright strange (a shirt with a picture of Darth Vader riding a merry-go-round) to surprisingly useful (A hot dog toaster). One gift that made this Birthday marginally more enjoyable was an Obama Chia Pet. For my readers who have no idea what a Chia Pet is picture your favorite political, historical, or inspirational character and then imagine a small peaceful garden being grown on their head.

You can probably understand my excitement when I realized that I had gotten the "triumphant" Chia rather than the "happy" Obama whom appears to have harvested the crop growing on his head for "medicinal purposes."

So far my Chia has yet to grow a full head of lush green follicles. But there is a certain energy that it's presence creates. This is evidenced by the many bugs it attracts who seem to make the pilgrimage from all corners of my apartment daily to worship the Obama (and drown) in the water overflow tray that accompanies the president. Overall, the gift was a great and made my birthday that much better. It has brought hours upon hours of enjoyable fun. I will post pictures as soon as some growth occurs.

  1. I feel there is also something to be said of the growing green Afro that might contribute in the future to a look of superb 80's funkiness.

  2. This gives him the look of a "triumphant" disco dancer which is really the goal in mind when one purchases or is lucky enough to obtain a/an Obama Chia Pet.
